How to Wear Bright Skinny Jeans

While I’ll never tire of basic blues, denim is delving into a whole new array of colors, prints and patterns. While solid colored skinnies aren’t anything new, we are seeing amped up brightness, bold patterns, and fun prints. I’m all for it, but I know some of you may enter this bright new world with a bit of (understandable) trepidation. Here are some tips to wear bright skinnies!

Fit, as always, is key. Let’s quickly review our minimal standards for ANY denim purchase: Your back pocket size should be proportionate to your butt size, the waist fit just against your skin and not cause a muffin top, the fabric should cover and skin flaws (dimples, cellulite, etc.), and the zipper should not pull. Lengthwise, your skinnies should hit just above the ankle bone (but cuff if you’d like, a la Isabel Marant/Balmain.)

Which color is for you? I suggest using the same tips you would for picking colored eyeliner – if you have brown eyes, opt for greens and oranges. Blue eyes, cobalt and yellow. Green eyes will stun in purple, lavender and pink.

Pair your bright neon or bold color skinny with its pastel counterpart.  Neon orange calls for peach or cream. Fluorescent green looks fab with mint. Bold blues go great with sky blue! You get the picture, right?

Accessorize with neutrals! Although this is playing it safe, it also is way pretty! Nude bag, shoes, and white or gold jewelry will keep your look streamlined and chic.

Looking to make a bright statement? You are wearing bright jeans, so why not? Balance the focus of your ensemble with a statement making pendant necklace, and a super posh updo. All eyes will be on you, and not your brightly colored bum.

Here are some of my favorite fitting skinnies/colors:
